The 36th annual Kinsmen Slo-Pitch took place at Vision Park July 31 through
August 3. President Don Bigger said, “We had 180 teams in the tournament this year Korbyn Bjorgan (5) takes a swing during the kids ball game at Gold Dust
and altogether about 50 volunteers to help with the weekend.” Daze. Korbyn’s Dad said, "This is her very first ball game". Pretty exciting
Dennis Heis, who has been an umpire for the past 10 years, said, "During the game too as Rainbow the Clown was playing outfield.
tournament we peeked at 31 umpires for the entire weekend which is a little bit short
for the number of diamonds that we have here. It was a lot of hard work for all the
umpires, most of them come from the Edmonton area. We have one from Edson, a
couple from Red Deer and Calgary. I came from Edmonton but I was actually born
here in Edson," said Heis.
"We have a three year contract with the Kinsmen. We always renew every three
years and this is the first of the next three year span. All the umpires come with
various abilities and we have a vast calibre here this weekend."
Don said, "Everything went pretty smooth and we are happy with the results. As
always we are planning on next year already".
