Parkland's Pacers Girls Basketball team take the lead

by Mikaela Kuefler

The Parkland Composite High School Senior
Girls' Basketball Team travelled down to
Whitecourt on the weekend of December 9 and
10 to play in the 2016 Hilltop Dairy Queen
Classic Basketball Tournament.
Six teams were registered, including a division
2 team from Edmonton, Blessed Oscar Romero
High School.
The Pacers played four games in the
tournament and dominated their games against
Hilltop High School, St. Joseph School, and
Mayerthorpe High School.
Their wins led them to face Oscar Romero for
the gold medal game.
During the first half of the game, Oscar
Romero came out slightly ahead and led for
most of the first half. The Pacers were
unbelievably close behind, fighting them every
step of the way. When point guard Kennedy
Claridge (grade 12) shot a three pointer just
seconds before the end of the second quarter,
that put an end to Oscar Romero's lead.
Early in the third quarter, the Pacers took the The Parkland Composite Senior Girls Basketball Team celebrates their first place win with
