YELLOWHEAD COUNTY INVITES YOU TO ATTEND THE
PEERS AREA STRUCTURE PLAN (ASP) REVIEW
Wednesday, January 11
Peers Multiplex 7:00-9:15pm

The purpose of this meeting is to introduce the land-use process
and have a good discussion about community enhancement,
opportunities and constraints to development, and types of land
use that might be appropriate. It is also a chance for you to better
understand the background information gathered to date
regarding development capability and capacity, environmental
considerations and current government policy

The Peers Area Structure Plan will affect:
· New developments and subdivisions
· Recreational usage of land
· Residential development and
· Commercial and Industrial Development
· Community long-term growth

At this early stage, no plan has yet been prepared. Rather, the first
step in the process is to have a discussion with local and
surrounding residents on their thoughts and ideas about the
future evolution of Peers.

This is YOUR opportunity to participate in building the future of
YOUR community!!

TAX PENALTY


Yellowhead County would like to remind landowners that
any taxes outstanding on December 31, 2016 will be YCFD Santa Runs and
subject to a 6% penalty. Food Bank Drives!

Payments can be made at the Yellowhead County office in
Edson and Wildwood, through Internet Banking, at any Wildwood and Evansburg
Financial Institution, or postmarked on/or before
December 31, 2016. We are doing a Santa Run with the East County Fire Services

hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and will be closed around the communities with Santa and the Fire Trucks and
December 26, 27, 28 and Monday, January 2. collecting food that we will be donating to the WEE Food bank.

COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS - December 13, 2016


211 Regional Service Official Launch – Yellowhead County Council formally launched the regional 2-1-1 services for Yellowhead County, Edson and
Hinton. The new 211 provides local information on government and community based health and social services.
Northern Rockies Museum of Heritage and Culture– Representatives from the Hinton Historical Society gave a presentation on the organization and
developments planned opening date for the new museum located in Hinton.
Flags of Remembrance – A representative from the Flags of Remembrance and Veterans' Voices of Canada presented Mayor Soroka with a Canadian flag and
Hero Plaque following an overview of what the organization represents and why it was started. The flags are placed along major throughways in various
communities to remind passersby and locals of departed veterans that served in the Canadian Military starting from the Boar War through to the Afghanistan
war.
Community Services Strategic Plan – Council awarded the contract for the Edson and Area Community Services Strategic Plan to Western Management
Consultants in the amount of $99,633. This is a joint project between the County and Edson and will be completed in 2017. The plan will be used to guide short and
long term investment in facilities, infrastructure, and community services programming.
Taxes & Accounts Receivable Write Offs – Council approved the write off of $13,210.10 in 2016 for the following tax accounts: tax roll 031669 $1,875.97 and
16 tax rolls in the name of Alberta Social Housing Corporation in the total amount of $11,334.13. Council also approved the 2016 write-off accounts receivable of
$3,173.52 in the name of AJ's Oilfield Services.
2017 Interim Budget – Council adopted the 2017 Interim Budget, as presented, in the total amount of $147,679,869, to be effective January 1, 2017.
Site Purchase Request – Council offered Lot 32, Block 1, Plan 062-7780 to Wesland Modular Homes Ltd. for the asking price of $65,000.00 based on their
request to purchase a Multi-Family Site in Evansburg.
Road Allowance Lease Renewal – Council authorized Administration to enter into a new lease agreement with the Town of Edson for the closed road allowance
on the west side of the NW 10-53-17-W5M.
Teck Coal Lease Renewal – Council approved a five-year lease for Pt. SE 8-47-23-W5M to Teck Coal Limited at a rate of $2,160.00 per year and a five-year lease
for Pt. NW 5-47-23-W5M to Teck Coal Limited at a rate of $1,276.00 per year.
Hwy 748 Motor Vehicle Incident –Yellowhead County Council is requesting a formal inquiry into how emergency services were contacted, deployed, as
well as the response they received by those already on scene at the recent Hwy 748 crash. YC Council is concerned that the 911 response centre was
circumvented and was the cause for a delayed response by the appropriate emergency services.
The next Council Meetings are January 10 & 24, 2017. The next Committee of the Whole Council Meeting is December 20, 2016. All meetings start at 9:30 a.m. in
the Council Chambers.
