Edson LEAP Centre’s Annual Touch-A-Truck

Posted on 2 May 2025

May 5, 2025 issue: by Deanna Mitchener: The Edson LEAP Centre’s Annual Touch-A-Truck event took place on April 27, in the parking lot between Pine Grove Elementary School and Parkland Composite High School. The event ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and was well attended with lots to see and do.

The first hour was sensory-friendly to provide an opportunity for individuals who do not care for loud noises to explore the machines without horns or flashing lights. This offered a calmer experience.

Event organizer, Melissa Johnson, said, “Despite the weather the turnout appears similar to last year with attendance of between 600-800 people.”

“We have over 40 exhibitors here with everything from cranes and cement trucks to big loaders and graders. We also have the lift bucket here, the fire department, and emergency services,” said Johnson.

When the morning sensory-friendly hour ended the sirens and lights got rolling.

“We also had a parade this year featuring a little tykes parade. We ended up having nine little kids in the parade. They received some prizes, which was fantastic. We had a little cruiser in a tractor and everything from wagons to tricycles and bicycles decorated,” said Johnson.

“Our RC area has been busy with races happening as well. We had a free barbecue happening throughout the time of the event,” Johnson said. Along with the free barbecue there were plenty of donuts, subs, candy, drinks, and other snacks to help fill the gap.

“Our society strives to provide activities and events in our community that are unique and inclusive to everyone. Proceeds from the events are used to support diverse learners and their families throughout the year,” Johnson said.

“The support from our sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers and participants for this event has been impressive and we would like to extend a thank-you to everyone that makes this event so memorable for everyone that attended.” concluded Johnson.
