Edson, Alberta, May 8, 2025 – The Town of Edson is instituting a full fire ban, effective May 8, 2025, at 9:00AM. The fire hazard rating for the Town of Edson is currently VERY HIGH.
“This ban is based on the current and predicted weather conditions, and to align with the current bans in the forest area surrounding the community. While we’re currently seeing some rain in the area, conditions still need to improve dramatically across the region.” -Edson Fire Chief Brad Milton
Any Existing Fire Pit Permits AND Open-Air Burn Permits for the Town of Edson are now suspended until further notice. No new permits will be issued.
This FIRE BAN includes all open burning such as outdoor wood fires, wood campfires on public lands, wood campfires on private land and provincial campgrounds, and backyard fire pits. It also includes fireworks, exploding targets, and charcoal briquettes.

Propane or natural gas-powered alliances ARE allowed, along with open flame oils devices such as turkey deep fryers and tiki torches. Indoor wood fires contained within a device with a chimney and spark arrestor are also OK at this time. All appliances must be CSA approved and used per manufacturer’s standards.
